The seven winning teams join Legion (1) in the quarter-finals at finals day on Sunday, May 20, at Seaton House.

GM Properties Arbroath Seniors

The GM Properties Arbroath Seniors will be played tomorrow (Saturday) at the Portcullis with a sign-in time of 11 a.m.

The entry criteria is that players must be aged 40 or over on the day of the tournament. This is the first time this event will have been held by Arbroath and District Pool League and it is hoped that it will be a success and will continue in future seasons.

The deadline for entries has been extended until 11 a.m. on the day of the competition to encourage as many entries as possible. The draw will be carried out shortly after 11 a.m.

Entry to the competition will be £5 per player.

The races on the day will be wholly dependant on the entries received. As a guide, it is hoped the competition will start with best of five as a minimum.

Arbroath’s five qualifiers for IM no. 2 are Andy Braid, Garry Mitchell, Greg Alexander, Jonathan Cargill and Graham Dunbar; who all now go on to the national finals to be held at Hustlers, Rosyth, over the weekend of April 21/22.

Deadline dates

The IM no. 3 finals are to be held over the weekend of June 23/24 at The Chieftain Hotel, Inverness. The Scottish Pool Association needs Arbroath’s five qualifiers 14 days in advance of the finals, giving until Sunday, June 10, to have all qualifying ties completed.

Therefore the deadlines for this event are as follows: preliminary matches must be played by Sunday, April 15;. matches 1, 2, 3 and 4 must be played by Sunday April 29; matches 5 and 6 must be played by Sunday, May 20; and match 7 must be played by Saturday, June 9.

Matches are best of 11 frames, lag first frame only. Players to arrange matches with each other at venue and time which suits both players. If you have any problems arranging fixtures, then get in touch with the match secretary as soon as possible. Winners to text or ‘phone result to the match secretary on completion of each match.

Race night

This year’s Arbroath and District Pool League race night fund-raiser will take place on Saturday, April 28. The venue will again be the Green Street Hall. More details will be published shortly but it is hoped that as many people from the pool-playing community will come along to this event and an open invitation is extended to all players, their partners and friends to come along for an enjoyable night which will help support the growth of pool in Arbroath.
