ARBROATH Ladies Town Championship semi-finals were held at Newgate Bowling Club on Thursday.
Spectators enjoyed some closely fought games. Newgate’s Margaret Cargill came out winner in the 29th end over Lochland’s Ina Glen, 21-20 and in Triples the Newgate team fought back from a slow start only to lose out on the last end to the Lochlands’ Helen Taylor, Joyce Smith and Marion Wilson, 15-16.
Singles - Abbey 16, Arbroath 21. Pairs - Abbey 18, Newgate 12; Lochlands 18, Arbroath 10. Triples - Arbroath 20, Abbey 9.
The finals were held at Lochlands on Saturday and again spectators were treated to some fine bowling.
The Arbroath triple of Julie Duff, Dorothy Watt and June Webster struggled all the way against the strong Lochlands team, Helen Taylor Joyce Smith and Marion Wilson, with the latter winning 19-11.
In the Pairs Abbey’s Doreen Thomson and Davina McGregor started well but by the mid point the Lochlands pair Mary Barrie and June Johnston began to dominate and won handsomely, 22-10.
Margaret Cargill, Newgate, and Leanne Furye, Arbroath, had a ding-dong battle in the singles with Margaret failing to find the last two shots she needed to win, allowing Leanne to dominate the final stages to emerge champion by 21-19.
