Boy golfers enjoy Elliot

SCOTLAND Boys’ cap Ewan Scott, St Andrews, got his season off to a flyer with a victory in this year’s opening Scottish Golf Union Junior Tour event at Arbroath over the weekend.

The 15-year-old, who won the English Boys’ under-14s championship in 2009, powered to a four-shot victory over a strong field, with reigning Scottish Boys champion Grant Forrest, Craigielaw, and national under-14s champion Bradley Neil, Blairgowrie, tied second.

Scott opened with a two-under par 68 and followed that up with a flawless 67 on Sunday morning, the highlight of which was a sensational eagle three at the long 17th. Despite carding six bogeys in the final round, he responded with three birdies and the comfortable cushion he’d created over the opening two rounds saw him cruise to victory.
