Newgate Bowling Club
Apologies for repeat of previous week’s report in last week’s Herald.
In the last round the Newgate pair of Sye Pearson and Gary Davies proved successful when they took on Carnoustie on their home ground. They went forward into the semi-final which was played at Hope Paton last Sunday (July 13) and made it through to the final with a fine performance. The final is being played at the Abbey this Sunday (July 20) with a 2.p.m. start.
Saturday Friendly for July 5. The only friendly played was away to Lochlands which resulted in a very narrow victory for Newgate.

The friendlies for Saturday July 12 were at home to Dudhope which was sponsored by D.H. Robertson, Butchers and away to Carnoustie West End and resulted in victories for both teams.

The friendlies for this week (tomorrow) are at home to Brechin sponsored by David Mackay, Funeral Directors, Arbroath and away to Letham with the away team bus leaving at 1.30.p.m.
On Saturday July 5 Newgate held their Invitation Fours Round Robin Competition which was sponsored by the Anderson Family involving 20 teams from the Angus and Fife areas. The final was a keenly contested affair with the Police Scotland team of Harry Burnett, Gordon Marshall, Ian Donald and Sandy Smith taking the honours from the home team of Jim Ramsay, Jim Watt, Billy Cadger and Tom Pullar . The trophy was presented by Club President Eric Martin and Match Organiser John Stirling.
Angus Top Ten Competition
On Tuesday July 8 Newgate travelled to Parkview for the first round and found the home team a hard nut to crack and lost the game by 6 points to 2.
Last Friday evening the Newgate team of Tom Reid, Eric Martin, Graeme Stewart and Paul Martin played in the South Area Final against the Abbey at the Abbey green and with a comfortable win made it into the final and await the winners of the North Area Section to see who they play in the overall final.
Renny Tailyour Trophy
Tonight (Friday) the Newgate team of Jim Butler, John McIlhatton, Bob Spence and Sandy Smith travel to play Montrose in the South Area Final .
Gents Club Triples.
This competition has now reached the final stage involving the triple of Dave Ferguson, Danny Reid and Scott Sibley who will play the triple of Brian Reid, Graeme Stewart and Sye Pearson
This round robin competition for club members will be held this Sunday (July20) with a 10.a.m. start. Members who have entered please check the notice board for draw and start times. Sections 1 and 2 are required to report to the clubrooms by 9.30.a.m. for a 10.a.m start. Members are reminded that the dress is greys and whites.
On Tuesday July 8 the Senior league game against the Abbey was cancelled due to the heavy rainfall earlier in the day. This game was re- arranged and played yesterday Thursday July 17th. On Tuesday past they travelled to Parkview for the penultimate game in the league for this season and managed to salvage some pride with a victory by 5 points to 2.

On Thursday July 10 the ladies entertained the ladies from Arbroath in a 2 rink friendly and came out on top by 1 shot.

Their next friendly was yesterday Thursday (July 17) away to Carnoustie which will be followed by a friendly on Wednesday July 23 at home to Lochlands.
Ladies Club Triples
Last Friday the ladies held the first round of their Club Triples . The next round will be played today Friday July 18th with the final being played the following Friday July 25th.
Ladies Invitation Day
Last Sunday (July 13) the ladies held their Invitation Day which involved invited guests from neighbouring clubs in a friendly rinks competition followed by a social evening.
