Scottish competitions

Last night (Thurs) the players started out on their quest to qualify for the national finals at Ayr later in the summer. Results will appear next week and the club wishes them every success.

Angus League

The Maroons travelled across the town for their first Angus League match of the season and returned home with the two points. Derby games are always difficult to call and it was the Abbey who started strongly. Nearing halfway they had poached an eight-shot lead but a couple of big turn arounds on two rinks changed the course of the match and gave the Maroons the lead which they extended as the match neared its climax, winning by 18 shots overall.

Tonight (Fri) Dudhope come calling on the Maroons and the [hill] will be packed as last year’s runners-up take on last year’s top ten winners. The maroons will have to up the ante big style if they want to keep there 100 per cent record intact. This game will be a yard stick as to how this years campaign will go.

Abbey Bowling Club

Abbey’s first game back in the first division of the Angus League saw them at home against local rivals Arbroath.

Abbey did well, taking an early lead but Arbroath hit back and eventually won 54-34.

Tonight’s game is against Craigie, who were also promoted last season.

On Saturday morning the under-25s county trials were held at the Abbey , the standard was very good and bodes well for the future of the Angus team.

This weeks fixtures had Abbey play host to Hillcrest which they won, while the away game was at Lochee were a draw was the final
