It is definitely a case of the early bird catching the fish at Rescobie Loch at present, even the Osprey is finding the evening sessions challenging.
Bagged up anglers have been coming off with their four fish mid afternoon whilst fed up evening anglers are struggling to weigh in a brace.
A variety of small flies and buzzers are catching fish and lures are still doing well. Black and yellow dancers, Dawson’s Olive, cormorants all get a mention in the returns book. Whilst some anglers are taking fish sub-surface with sink tips, others are finding success trawling the bottom.
The deeper water off the Roadside bank, Greenbank and the islands are proving most productive.
Large brown trout continue to dominate the ‘Fish of the Month’ leaderboard. Lee Brewster held on to take July with his 9lb 8oz brown. Some contenders for August were, A. Stewart (Brechin) two for 12lbs 2oz, A. Wood (Forfar) one at 6 lbs, R. Buick (Arbroath) one at 4lbs, J. Westland (Montrose) one at 7lbs 4 oz, N. Cargill (Arbroath) one at 4lbs 4oz, T. Hale (Forfar) one at 5lbs 8oz. On the leaderboard at the moment is A. Wood (Forfar) who had three for 23lbs 4oz, the largest being 9lbs 12oz
