ON SATURDAY, St Thomas swimmer Ashley Thomson (pictured) celebrated her 12th birthday in style by participating in a butterfly stroke camp at the National Swimming Academy in Stirling.
She was selected for the stroke camp based on her performances at the District Regional Programme last year.
The sessions were led by former Olympian and current British Swimming Intensive Training Centre coach Rob Greenwood. Ashley also had the opportunity to watch and hear from Commonwealth finalist Andrew Mayor.
Loch Laggan day out
NINE members of Forfar and District Hillwalking Club enjoyed a day out to Loch Laggan (south side.)
They walked in to Lochan na h’Earba and from there climbed steeply to reach the summit plateau of Geal Charn. The final easy walk across the plateau to the cairn and trig point was made in fresh snow.
The walkers then descended west before the short re-ascent to Creag Pitridh. The tops were clear for most of the day and there were good views of Ben Alder and the surrounding hills and west to the snow-capped Stob Coire Easain and Stob Ban.
The group enjoyed refreshments in Blair Atholl on the journey home.
Members are in Arran for the bank holiday weekend (May 4 to 7).
The next open meeting is on May 14 which will include the annual gird competition. Please check website for details – www.fdhwc.org.uk
