Kelbie Metals Singles and Doubles
Entries are now being taken for this year’s premium Arbroath and District Pool League events, the Kelbie Metals Singles and Doubles. The entry fee remains at £3 per player for the singles and £4 per pair in the doubles.
Entry forms have been distributed to all captains, but are also available for download from the Arbroath Pool website. The deadline for entries into both competitions is Tuesday, December 13, at 7 p.m. All entries must be handed into the Ram’s Heid on the appropriate forms for the attention of the match secretary or treasurer or handed to them in person.
At this year’s Arbroath and District Pool League annual general meeting it was agreed to introduce a new tournament for this season, the Scotch Doubles. Depending on entries and interest this may become an annual event.
Entry will be £4 per double. Depending on entries there will be a qualifying round held on January 11, with the finals taking place on Saturday, January 28.
Rules are Scotch doubles, which means players take alternative shots within the same visit, i.e., player one makes a pot and then player two makes the next pot. Players therefore are leaving the white in position for their partner to play from.
More importantly, players are allowed to talk before each visit starts. Players can talk again between shots but they only have one minute to do so, unlike the ADPL doubles where discussions are not permitted between shots. As such the frames tend to be quicker and more open with less talking. Those players who have played these rules in practice speak highly of them and hence the introduction of this new tournament.
The deadline for entries is Tuesday, December 13, at 7 p.m. All entries must be handed into the Ram’s Heid on the appropriate forms for the attention of the match secretary or treasurer or handed to them in person.
The deadline for entries to the SPA IMs has been extended to Saturday, December 3. Any interested players should pay their £25 fee to Michael Bastow or Roy Middleton no later than this date. Any players who do not pay their fees by this date will not be eligible for this season’s IMs.
It is Dundee’s turn to host the Tayside Doubles this year and the deadline for entries is this Wednesday (December 7) to allow the draw to be carried out in advance.
The tournament will be held on Saturday, December 10, at The Old Mill, Dundee, with races best of five to begin with. Sign in time is 11 a.m. Entry fee is £10 per double. All entries must be handed into the Ram’s Heid for the attention of Graham Dunbar or handed to him in person.
