Arbroath’s annual charity boxing event took place last Friday evening at the Sports and Community Centre, Marketgate.

A capacity crowd attended the popular event organised by John Cooper and Marti Johnstone.

All the boxers were sponsored by friends and local businesses to raise funds for their nominated charities. Referee was Mike Holm, the sound system was supplied by Abbey Music and the compere was Eric Buick.

During the half-time break the audience was entertained by dancing Group ‘Invasion’ and the dancers also acted as ring girls between bouts, holding up the round numbers.

Top prize in the half-time raffle was a signed boxing glove donated by WBO Lightweight World Champion Ricky Burns, from Coatbridge. It was won by boxing enthusiast Joe McLean from Arbroath.

Results were: Eric Twaddle defeated Colin Ogilvie; Conor McLeod beat Daniel Campbell; Derek Arthur triumphed over Gav Cook; Kayleigh Wallace won over Alice Coates; Jason Craib defeated Jack Parry; Jade Watt got the better of Denise Buchan; Lyall Scott was too strong for Lewis Jenkins; Lee Burgess defeated Gordon Lyall; Michelle Brown beat Louise Crozier; and Tom Gordiyenko triumphed over Jason Cargill.

The final bout between Scott Moreland and Roman Tamborsky ended in a draw.
