Scottish wrestling is the fastest growing scene in Europe right now and that’s no different for Tayside promotion Scottish Wrestling Entertainment.
SWE, who run shows in Dundee, Tayside, Fife and Perth, are in the midst of one of their biggest weeks in their history leading up to Hell for Lycra XI - their flagship show - on Saturday, August 30.
That show will feature some huge names from North American and British wrestling alongside some of the brightest talents on the British scene.
WWE Hall of Famer Road Warrior Animal, best known as half of the iconic Road Warriors/Legion of Doom tag team with Hawk, will battle ‘The Beast from Belfast’ Damian O’Connor, one of the top brawlers on the British independents.
English grappler Doug Williams, former Ring of Honor Pure Champion and TNA X-Division Champion, will be in action against ‘Global Hero’ Joe Hendry - one of the most popular and talent rookies around.
And iconic British legends Marty Jones and Johnny Saint will be on opposite sides as they take part in a tag team bout, Jones joining Jay the Jackal against Saint and Felix Fortune.
Other signed matches for Hell for Lycra XI include the SWE Championship bout between champion Ian Ambrose and challenge Martyn Stallyon, a cage match between Chaz Phoenix and Steven Magners and a brawl between Bravehart and the bizarre Mr Euan G. Mackie.
Tickets for the huge event are available at www.sweonline.co.uk and cost £15, which includes entry to an autograph session from 2 p.m.
Doors open at 6.45 p.m. with the first bell at 7.30 p.m.
SWE have confirmed that two former WWE superstars will be appearing for them in October of this year.
Other big stars that have featured for the company over the years include WWE alumni Bret Hart, Diamond Dallas Page, Rowdy Roddy Piper and Chavo Guerrero.
And last week they welcomed ex-WWE superstar and star of the independents Colt Cabana to their Hellbound event, who took on Ayrshire’s Grado - the focus of the hugely popular BBC One documentary ‘Insane Fight Club’.
