At the weekend Arbroath and District Bowling Club’s Leanne Furye and Caroline Ruxton travelled to Fraserburgh to compete in the Ladies’ National Two Bowl Pairs.
On Saturday morning they played in the semi-final against Prestwick winning both sets to qualify for the final on Sunday.
In the afternoon Leanne was contesting the Ladies’ National Singles semi-final against the player from East Fife. Unfortunately she did not make the best of starts and her opponent built up a commanding lead.
Leanne started to reduce her opponent’s lead when she got into her usual game. However at the conclusion her opponent won the game 21-17.
On Sunday morning Leanne and Caroline played against the Midlothian pair in the final of the Two Bowl Pairs.
The Arbroath pair won the first set, but the local duo were under par in the second set and Midlothian pulled level. In the deciding set the Midlothian pair held a reasonable lead only for the Leanne and Caroline to rally over the last few ends to snatch a victory and become the national champions.
Tomorrow (Saturday), the gents travel to Dundee to play Perth in this season’s Scottish Knock-Out Cup hoping to carry on where they left off in the league.
