Vics win opening friendlies

ARBROATH Vics began their preparations for the new season with a friendly against North Region side Aberdeen Parkvale on Saturday.

Vics got off to a flier in the first-half and by the interval were 3-0 ahead thanks to a hat-trick by CRAIG WATSON.

A fourth goal arrived 10 minutes into the second period when a trialist striker headed in a corner.

A combination of Vics taking their foot of the pedal and Parkvale upping their game, however, saw the visitors pull three goals back through DARREN IRVIN and a NEIL SCOTT double, before the close to leave Vics winners by 4-3.

On a wet Monday night, Vics were again in action when they entertained Forfar Athletic Under-19s.

The Station Park side took an early lead through GAVIN THOMSON, but by the interval, Vics were 2-1 ahead thanks to a brace from CRAIG WATSON.

After the break, LIAM CAMPBELL rounded off the scoring when he netted from a free-kick to make it 3-1 in Vics’ favour.

Vics continue their preparations with another friendly tomorrow (Saturday) at home to Fife side, Newburgh. Kick-off is at 2.30 p.m.
