Vics’ pre-Season friendlies

AFTER almost a month of training, Arbroath Vics entertained Lewis United in the first of their pre-season friendlies at Ogilvy Park on Saturday.

Vics opened the scoring in 10 minutes through a great strike from SCOTT McDOWELL, but the North Region Super League side levelled midway through the half with a similar effort from JOHN LOW. SCOTT McDOWELL gave Vics an interval lead when he scored again after 30 minutes.

Not to be outdone, JOHN LOW also grabbed his second goal of the match not long after the re-start to level matters again. With 15 minutes left, SCOTT McDOWELL notched his hat-trick to put Vics 3-2 ahead, but two goals inside the last five minutes from CHRIS NESS and STEVE ROBERTSON saw the Aberdeen side end the match as winners.

On Tuesday evening, Tayport were the visitors as Vics continued their pre-season preparations.

Despite an encouraging first 30 minutes Vics found themselves on the wrong end of a 6-0 scoreline.

GRANT MANZIE grabbed a first-half hat-trick with goals in the 30th, 43rd and 44th minutes, his second from the penalty spot. After the break further goals from MARK WHATLEY (60), TRIALIST (67) and STEFAN ELVIN (76) completed the scoring.

Vics continue their friendly fixtures with a match against Letham Lads Club at Ogilvy Park tomorrow (Saturday). Kick-off is at 2.30 p.m. On Tuesday evening Vics entertain Arbroath under-19s. Kick-off is at 7 p.m.
