Vics left with another blank Saturday

For the second time this season, Arbroath Vics were due to meet Scone Thistle away in the league, but again the match was postponed, just like the previous week, due to a frozen pitch.

Vics made an attempt to have the match switched to Ogilvy Park when it became obvious there would be no chance of it going ahead in Perthshire on Friday afternoon.

Indeed, a check on the pitch at Cairnie Loan around 3.30 p.m. on Friday saw it playable, but that changed overnight when the temperatures plummeted and by 9am on Saturday morning the ground was again rock solid with frost, leading to it being postponed there also.

Faced with yet another blank Saturday, Vics arranged a late friendly against Jeanfield Swifts on an artificial surface in Crieff, winning 5-3. Scorers were Kane Hester (3), Scott Donald and Grant Mowatt. The match proved to be a worthwhile exercise, giving both teams some game time in the stop-start fixture list, which has been badly hit by the weather since the turn of the year.

Having only played two competitive matches since the first week of December, Vics will be hoping for better luck this Saturday when they again try to get the game v Scone Thistle in the league played. Included in the pool is new signing Paul Weir, on loan from Forfar West End. Kick-off is at 1.45 p.m. and players should meet at Ogilvy Park at 11.30 a.m.
