Arbroath manager Todd Lumsden praised a profitable transfer window after securing the exact reinforcements he wanted.
The Gayfield gaffer had set himself the goal of recruiting a defender, a midfielder and a striker in January.
And that’s exactly what he got after bringing in Shaun Rutherford, Josh Skelly and Jamie Henry on loan.
Left-sided defender Rutherford comes in from St Johnstone, forward Skelly arrives from Dundee and Henry has been sent out by Aberdeen.
The trio were additions that Todd was seeking anyway, but with a couple of squad departures in January they’ll be very warmly welcomed.
Jamie Clarke and Martin Grehan were released to try and find more playing time elsewhere, with Clarke finding a new club right away at Montrose.
Lumsden said the duo left Gayfield with the club’s gratitude and best wishes.
He said: “At the start of the window we said we needed to get a defender in, a midfielder in and a striker in. We’ve managed to get that.
“Jamie started well for us and we couldn’t not sign him after his performances in pre-season. It was just the way the season went and the style of play we wanted to adopt, his game-time was going to be limited and he appreciated that.
“He fully understood where he was but he wanted to go and play. We were happy with that so we shook hands and wished him the best, and now he’s away to Montrose. He’s a great lad, great trainer but we thought it was best for everyone if he moved on.
“It was the same with Martin, 85 to 90 per cent of the performance was great but it was just that extra bit that we felt was missing. Again we shook hands and wished him well. He’ll do well for someone I’ve no doubt.”
Meanwhile the manager confirmed that striker Joao Victoria is on the transfer list after the relationship between player and club broke down.
Victoria joined Arbroath from East Kilbridge Thistle after impressing on trial and scored in his debut against Queen’s Park.
Todd said: “Joao Victoria was signed to give him an opportunity to play. He scored on his debut, he did well. He battled to get into the team and didn’t get into it, others were just playing better than he was.
“The relationship broke down and we’ve had no real contact with him for a while, and he’s been transfer listed.”
