ACSC Seniors have kicked off their campaign in the George Buckman Premier League and related competitions by winning three and narrowly losing one of their opening four games.
ACSC opened their campaign in the Marquee Trophy against local rivals AHSFPs. A crowd of 100-150 supporters looked on as ACSC won 2-1 in a tightly contested affair, R. Gillespie and S. Gatrick scoring the goals that secured a well-deserved three points on balance of play.
Next up were last year’s George Mackie Premier League runners-up NCR, also in the Marquee Trophy. In another tight affair ACSC came away with another three points with new signing McCulloch scoring his first goal for the club and Longmuir getting the other to take the ACSC to the top of the group and needing only a point away to Invergowrie to secure their first semi-final spot of the year.
However Invergowrie were to throw a spanner in the works when they defeated ACSC narrowly by 2-1, a couple of sloppy errors costing the ACSC and meaning they will ironically have to rely on the nearest rivals AHSFPs to help them qualify.
That game will be played this Saturday. If the AHSFP get anything ACSC will qualify as group winners and will meet last year’s foes Riverside Athletic in the semi-finals.
The ACSC kicked off their George Mackie Premier league campaign last Saturday against big spending Bank St. Athletic at home. With a severely depleted squad ACSC turned in a hard fought 2-0 victory with Pearson and Longmiur getting the goals for the home side and their first three points on the board. Tomorrow (Saturday) the ACSC are away to Dundee College.
