Premier League side put to the sword by on form Vics

Arbroath Vics continued their pre-season friendlies with a home match against last season’s North Division champions, Dundee North End on Tuesday evening.

Vics again fielded several trailists and took the lead in15 minutes when KANE HESTER drilled a low shot into the bottom right-hand corner.

Twenty minutes later, Vics increased their lead when HESTER again got on the scoresheet running beyond the North End defence and the keeper to run the ball into the net.

With half-time approaching, former Vics forward, ABDOURAHMAN NJIE pulled a goal back for North End when he netted from close range in the 40th minute.

Their was only one further goal in the second period and it came in the 65th minute when GARRY WARREN lobbed the ball over the North End ‘keeper to give Vics a 3-1 win over the Premier Division side.

Vics were again in action on Saturday when FC Stoneywood from the North Region Super League were guests at Ogilvy Park.

On this occasion, Vics found themselves on the losing side when a late goal gave the Aberdeen side a 2-1 win.

The visitors opened the scoring in the 20th minute when PAUL CAMPBELL netted, but Vics leveled on the stroke of half-time when TRIALIST number nine sent a low shot into the bottom corner.

The match looked like ending in a draw, but with five minutes remaining, LIAM BAIN headed in off a post from a corner to give the team from Aberdeen the win.

In a hastily arranged friendly on Monday night, Vics took on local amateur side Arbroath CSC and ran out winners by four goals to two.

Vics took the lead in eight minutes when TRIALIST number seven found the net, but CSC got back on level terms through LIAM HARDIE in 20 minutes. Within a couple of minutes, Vics were back in front when KANE HESTER scored.

After the break, goals from MARK FOTHERINGHAM and DAVID STURROCK increased Vics lead to three goals.

But before the end, CRAIG NICOLL crashed in a drive for CSC to make the final score 4-2.
