Arbroath were on the end of a huge 7-1 defeat at the hands of Inverness Caledonian Thistle in their final pre-season friendly tonight (Tuesday).

On Saturday, the Lichties go in against Stenhousemuir in the Ramsdens Cup in their first competitive outing.

And they will be hoping to bounce back after totally being outplayed by SPL outfit Caley Thistle tonight.

Inside the first half hour of the game, the visitors’ Billy McKay had already completed his hat-trick as they began their rout.

And by half-time McKay added a fourth, in a spectacular first half performance.

Josh Meekings and Liam Polworth added a further two goals for the away side to make it 6-0 around the hour mark.

The only bright point of the game came from Lichties’ sub Darren Smith, who struck a brilliant volley into the back of the net.

But McKay produced once again on 83 minutes to take his fifth goal of the game, leaving the Gayfield men well and truly beaten.
