Kingennie

It has been another interesting week at Kingennie with the windy weather making fishing conditions quite challenging.

The Boathouse Pool fished well again with Hugh Bairner taking four fish for 18.5lbs, including a superb blue trout weighing 7lbs.

Mr Tidcome landed four for 13.25lbs on a Diawl Bach and Davie Simpson returned eight including rainbows of 9lbs 07ozs and 8.25lbs.

Hot Head Damsels fished particularly well.

On the Burnside Pool it was mainly blobs, buzzers and Bibio which claimed the best results.

Alan Hawes returned a beautiful rainbow estimated at 5lbs.

Windy conditions were fairly severe on the Bankside Pool, but Frank Sherriff braved them to catch/release six fish on hoppers. Hot Head Damsel and Floating Fry also went well.

The Woodside Pool again proved the efficiency of Powerbait, with most fish falling to it on a float rig.

A few decent fish showed up on the spinner, which is always a decent option at this time of year.

On the ornithology front Kingennie has benefited from a rare visitor which was spotted on the Woodside Pool by sports manager Jonnie Whelan. A quick call to Mickey Melon and Bob McCurley (Angus & Dundee Bird Club) resulted in its identification being established as a Slavonian Grebe, which is quite rare in Scotland.

About 20 birdwatchers arrived during Sunday and seemed to enjoy the tranquil surroundings with opportunities to see some interesting wildlife. Hopefully the venue will be visited again during autumn/winter.

The official end to summer time shouldn’t result in a form of hibernation! Anglers and birdwatchers always have plenty to interest them at Kingennie.
