ARBROATH High School FPs’ Midlands team had a great result on Saturday, beating Barnhill 6-0 in the final of the Division One Tay Valley Shield, at the home of Arbroath Victoria, Ogilvy Park.
Both teams showed a lot of nerves in the first half, with Dale Riddell scoring with a flick on from Liam Scott’s free kick, the FP’s went into the half-time break 1-0 ahead.
The second half started with a flourish, and Barnhill spurned two good chances to score. After numerous rash challenges, the Barnhill midfielder received a second yellow card for a terrible tackle on Laverick.
This changed the game entirely, and the FPs romped ahead, with Barber, Laverick, Fenwick, Mowatt and Scott all finding the net to win this trophy for the first time in their history.
The FPs have extended their thanks to Arbroath Victoria for the use of their park, and to all the well wishers and supporters who made the day a very memorable one.
