Motherwell youngster Lee Erwin was a last-minute loan signing by Lichties’ boss Paul Sheerin on Friday.
And he proved his worth almost straight away as he grabbed two goals to set Arbroath up for a 2-1 win against local rivals Brechin City at Gayfield on Saturday.
The 19-year-old has only limited first team experience but has played for the national side at under-15, under-17 and under-19 level.
But not even he could have imagined enjoying such a dream debut which saw him strike two superb goals.
And he hopes there is more of them to come.
He said: “Hopefully I can add more.
“I have come here to get first team experience and that is the main aim.
“I have played pre-season friendlies and trained with the first-team at Motherwell but it is good to get this experience.”
Erwin has been with Motherwell, his hometown club since he was seven.
And the striker walked into the virtual unknown last week when he signed on at Gayfield, not knowing any of the players.
However, they will make him feel at home as they prepare for their next match - an away trip to Ibrox to play Rangers.
And even though they are hot favourites to win the league, Erwin is confident.
He added: “I just want to play games, it doesn’t matter who it is we’re playing.
“We just want the three points and I would say we can do it as we look good going forward and defensively we looked solid.”
