Arbroath star Ricky Little says landing first punch is key

Defender Ricky Little says Arbroath need to start landing the first blow if they want to get the rewards their performances deserve.

The 1-0 defeat to Clyde saw one of the side’s best performances of the season during the second half but they were left empty-handed again nonetheless.

If we score first against anybody I would fancy us.

A ninth minute Chris Smith goal did the damage and Little believes the early goals have to stop.

He added that if the Lichties can be the one to get that first goal, the team has the firepower to go and score several more.

Ricky said: “We’re massively frustrated. We’ve lost another cheap goal early which is frustrating. After that the boys have responded well and we’ve controlled the game.

“In terms of chances we looked about as dangerous as we have in recent weeks. We’ve recently not looked like we’re going to score but I think with the chances we’ve had, we should have got something out of the game. It’s just not happening for us right now.

“It’s frustrating more than anything but I think we’ve just got to take the positives. It’s still not good enough to be losing these games but there are positives. If we don’t concede that early goal we kick on, maybe score first. If we can score first we all feel that we can go and take a few off someone.

“If we’re scoring goals then the half-chances we’ve had will go in. We just need to remain upbeat. I think the win will come if we keep playing well. We just have to go and score the first goal, if we score first against anybody I would fancy us.

“The more we lose early goals the more it’s in everybody’s heads. If anything I thought we were that tuned into it that we wouldn’t concede. We’ve had a header run along the line and with a bit of luck we get it, it’s frustrating.”
