Lads’ Club 9, Saints 5
The under-14s kicked off their Scottish Cup campaign against local rivals Saints at Vicky Park. Weather reports proved correct with the strong wind being the winner in this tie.
Lads’ Club opted to play against the wind in the first half and almost from kick off Saints went ahead.
Although against the wind some fantastic football was played by the home side and three quick goals from Beattie and one from Lightfoot pushed the club to the fore.
However, some poor defending towards the end of the first half found the team 4-4 at half-time.
With the wind at their backs the Lads were confident they could finish the job off. However, they found themselves down following Saints’ first attack of the second half. But quick counters from substitute Mowatt and two from Clark soon restored their lead.
Saints lost their discipline and some crunching tackles resulted in a couple of bookings. Beattie rounded off proceedings with another double to end the tie 9-5 in favour of the Lads Club’ who now travel to Leven for their second round tie.
