ACSC end their season on positive note

ACSC faced NCR in their final league game of the season at Hercules Den on Saturday.

Having secured third place in the league last week the game offered the ACSC the chance to go second in the table if only for a short while.

With a number of personnel missing due to work commitments, Mo Fest and holidays the ACSC were down to the bare 11 with manager Longmuir and coach Taylor having to name themselves as substitutes.

The team lined up with Reid in the goal (a special mention must be given to Reid who was playing his last game for the club(so he says) after numerous years of top notch goalkeeping and the odd goal-a-game performance Reid was deciding to hang up his gloves...All the best Reider, been a great servant to the club over the years).

The back four comprised of McCulloch, Smith and a thinner looking Cook and M. Swan, who in recent weeks had made the right back slot his own. Campbell started on the left of midfield with Gersok and Gatrick in the centre and young Gunning out on the right. Up top ‘The Hoof’ returned to partner Scott.

NCR had the better of the play in the first half as the ACSC struggled to come to terms with their new line-up and it was Reid in the goal that had a couple of important saves, touching one onto the bar from point blank range and looking assured with his handling.

ACSC began to come into the game halfway through the half but without any real fluidity to their play the chances were few and far between. Young Guns was forced to go off 30minutes in due to an injury with Longmuir replacing him up top with Scott dropping back to right midfield.

The second half performance was better from the ACSC who were getting more joy up in wide areas without really causing too many problems for the NCR keeper.

The only goal of the game came 15minutes from time when Scott broke free and fed Gall who fired (and I mean fired) a ball into the middle where Manager Longmuir headed home from about a yard out.

The least he deserved for his efforts for the season. NCR tried to get the goal back but apart from a couple of long range efforts that Reid dealt with confidently they never troubled the ACSC defence who were looking solid under Smith and Cook’s leadership and the ACSC finished the game to collect another hard earned 3points.

Credit to all the players today who dug in when the going was tough. CR played some nice football at times and perhaps may feel agggrieved that they never took anything from the game.

But it is another example of a group of players slogging it out when the odds were stacked against them. Well done lads and a great way to finish the season.
