Forfar Flyers 9, Torbain Tigers 3
FLYERS took full advantage of being at home against Torbain Tigers with an emphatic victory at the Saltire Centre last Tuesday night.
The game was late in facing off due to the match referees getting held up in the local diversions and things didn’t start too well for the Flyers when they fell behind after 55 seconds.
The Tigers first shot on goal was when Douglas fired high past Craig Ross who was starting his first game in goal this season.
But it didn’t take the home team long to level the game when Robbie Winter picked up the puck deep in his own zone before finding the net from a very tight angle.
As the first period entered the eighth minute Flyers turned their domination into goals when Allan Hamilton gave the Tiger’s custodian no chance when he picked out the top corner to double the home team’s lead.
Winter got his second and his team’s third when he slid the puck under the despairing netminder and within a minute Craig Gunn had further increased the lead when he gave the ‘keeper no chance with a well placed wrist shot.
Torbain tried to get a foothold in the game and Stuart Sinclair got his first of the game when he was set up after some excellent play by Jamie McBean and Andy Hills. The period continued with Flyers continuing to dominate the game but they had to wait until the final two minutes of the period when Winter completed his hat trick with an assist from Gunn.
As the game entered the final minute of the period, Winter combined with Robbie Adam to close out the first with a lead of six goals.
With a commanding lead for the home team and Torbain now playing for pride, they were rewarded after when Haston found space at the back post to give Ross no chance and reduce the leeway.
Despite this setback Flyers took a grip of the game when Hills and Hamilton worked some space to allow the former to fire an unstoppable slap shot high into the rigging.
Gunn finished off the scoring for Flyers assisted by Hamilton and Winter, despite Torbain pulling another goal back on 12 minutes the result was never in doubt.
