SATURDAY saw the annual Bellrock Open darts tournament take place at the Red Lion Holiday Park, Arbroath.
There was a strong field in the men's event with 128 entries all vying for the title and the winner's prize of £501. The semi final line-up was Alan Norris (Bo'ness) v Davie Knowles (Aberdeen) and Alex Lister (Falkirk) v Clive Jones (Arbroath).

Alan and Clive proved too strong in the last four and progressed to the final in which both players started well and had chances to take an early lead.

However, it was Alan who found his range and produced a top display of darting prestige (Including four 180s in seven legs) to power to victory 5-2. Local player Clive Jones received the runners up trophy and £250, while Alan Received the winner's trophy, £501 and, most importantly, the title of Bellrock Open Champion 2009.

Alan Norris is ranked number 12 in the world and will be appearing on the Lakeside Stage in January 2010 in the BDO World Professional Darts Championship.

Arbroath Darts has extended its thanks to all sponsors of the event. Without the support of these companies, it would not be possible to attract the top players in Scotland to Arbroath.

Main sponsor – Bellrock Chip Shop; venue sponsor – Red Lion Holiday Park; dartboard sponsors – Jarret's Taxis, Peggy's Fast Food, Bowlers Bar, Coast Bar & Nightclub, C.S. Roofing and Arbroath Taxis.
