DESPITE Saturday being an ideal day for football, with no wind or rain and brilliant sunshine, all junior matches were once again postponed.
A heavy overnight frost took its toll on the fixture card with frozen surfaces rendering all grounds unplayable. A morning inspection by referee Willie Ferguson found Ogilvy Park to be in no state to host a match, and subsequently Vics' league fixtur
e against East Craigie fell by the wayside.

The afternoon was not entirely wasted, however, as a late friendly was arranged on the all-weather surface at Links Park, Montrose, against Forfar West End, whose Emirates Scottish Junior Cup replay at home to Whitletts Vics was also postponed.

In an entertaining match, Vics shared eight goals with the Premier Division leaders in a 4-4 draw.

MARK PIRIE put West End ahead in 17 minutes, but RYAN LOW levelled two minutes later.

PIRIE put West End back in front only for the lead to last for a further two minutes before SCOTT McDOWELL made it 2-2.

West End were much sharper than Vics in the first period and went on to lead 4-2 at half-time with PIRIE completing his hat-trick in the 30th minute before STEWART McCONNACHIE found the net shortly before the break.

Vics quickly reduced the deficit when LEE JONES netted a penalty five minutes after the restart.

Vics had by far the better chances in the second half and only a couple of outstanding saves from former 'keeper, Chris Hutchison, kept West End in front until JONES bagged his second goal of the afternoon in the 72nd minute, when he curled a delightful free-kick high into the net from 25 yards.

Weather permitting; Vics are due to meet East Craigie again tomorrow (Saturday). Kick-off is at 2 p.m.
