NINE swimmers represented St Thomas Amateur Swimming Club at the Fins Graded Meet in Kirkcaldy at the weekend.
This was the first meet of the new season for the swimmers and represented an excellent opportunity to gauge how well their training had gone during the summer break.
In the 11-and-under boys' category, Ross Geddes was on top form setting personal
best times in all his events. He came first in the 50m backstroke, winning in a time of 40.49 after a good fight with Fraser Reid from Carnegie and in the 50m breaststroke Ross secured a bronze medal. In the 100 butterfly, Ross was seeded first but he needed to swim a six second personal best in order to secure a 'speeding ticket'.
This meant that although Ross had achieved the fastest time in his age group, the 1.23.09 was too fast!
For his success, Ross was presented with a marble plaque. In the final of the 100m backstroke Ross was never out of contention but was unlucky to lose third place on the touch while in the 100m breaststroke he swam two seconds faster in the final than he had in the heat, winning a silver medal in a time of 1.40.95.
Competing in the 11-years girls' age group, both Sahala Larnyoh and Hannah Milne secured finalist positions. Sahala came home sixth in the 100m backstroke, setting a new personal best time in the heats while, in the 100m freestyle, Sahala came fourth in a time of 1.15.94.
