ARBROATH United Cricket Club played host to an under-18 women's cricket tournament last Sunday.
The event at Lochlands cricket ground was designed to celebrate the continued growth of Scottish women's cricket and provide a showpiece for youngsters coming through development squads.

Four teams from Borders/Tayside, Kinross, West of Scotland a
nd St Andrews University competed on a warm but showery afternoon.

The event gave the Scotland Under-17 team coach, Kathryn White, the opportunity to assess the players' ability in a match situation.

In teams of eight, all the players were asked to show their skill with the bat and ball throughout the fast and furious competition.
The eventual winners on the day were West of Scotland who showed excellent technical ability. However, all the teams are to be commended for their performances.

Arbroath United cricketers Vicky Martin and Stacey Christie have been selected to play for the national side at Under-17 level against Cheshire.

The tournament attracted local sponsorship from G. and A. Spink fishmonger and Mackays Preserve Manufacturers, while Angus Ahead and Angus Tourist Board provided promotional materials.

Organiser Geoff Vaughan passed on his thanks to the Arbroath ladies who provided a cricket tea as well as the umpires and helpers who worked hard to make the day a success.
