ARBROATH are now in their third week of pre-season training and manager John McGlashan says the team are looking forward to their first pre-season friendly, writes Jennifer Newton.
The Lichties play their first game against Spartans on July 11 and McGlashan says the players are can't wait to get started.

He said: "Training has continued to go well with more or less all of the players back from holiday and back in training and we are all looking forward to playing some games.

"The only player not to return yet is Robert Urquhart, who has swine flu, but we are hoping he will be back soon.

"We are working towards the first game against Spartans and all of the players have now completed their fitness testing and have been given their own individual training programmes."

McGlashan is also hopeful of playing a behind closed doors game against Queen of the South in the days after the friendly against Spartans.

He added: "Hopefully we will take in a training game against Queen of the South in Perth and all of the players will feature at some point in this game.

"It will purely be for training purposes and not competitive so we will have players coming off and going on all of the time.

"The reason we are playing the game at our training venue in Perth is because it is not a competitive match, if it was we would then be playing it at Gayfield."

The club are also finalising plans for the fun day which will be held at Gayfield on Saturday, July 11.

McGlashan hopes that youngsters in the area will take up the opportunity to come to the fun day and train with the players.

He explained: "We will be having coaching and games with the first team squad and we are hoping to have a mini tournament on the Gayfield pitch.

"We hope that young supporters will take the opportunity to come along and we will have more details about the event next week."
