MIXED WEEK FOR ARBROATH LAWN TENNIS CLUB

LAST Monday Arbroath played hosts to West End. The team was missing the services of Jennifer Green, Ali Duncan and Kevin Small.
But despite not being at full strength Arbroath still ran out comfortable winners on the night and the team currently remains at the top of Division One in the Henderson Vase competition.

Edwards / A. Gorman lost to I. Martin / N. Hutcheon 6-7, 3-6; R. Edwards / A. Gorman drew with A. Chopot / R. Hunter 3-6, 6-3.

Result: Arbroath 6.5, West End 2.5.

3rd team

The 3rd team travelled to Glenfarg last Monday. The Arbroath team comprised mainly parent and child couples and despite losing on the night, all family members were still speaking at the end.

The team will hopefully pick up points next week otherwise may face a battle to avoid relegation.

Morton 6-1, 7-5; G. Fairlie / J. Fairlie drew with A. Ponton / I. Alexander 7-4, 4-6; G. Fairlie / J. Fairlie lost to L. Swanson / A. Swanson 6-2, 6-3; G. Fairlie / J. Fairlie beat C. Kinlock / K. Morton 6-1, 6-3.

Result: Glenfarg 6.5, Arbroath 2.5.

2nd team

Arbroath 2nd team welcomed back Kevin Small and Carolyn McKay to the squad.

Despite heavy rain coming on towards the end of the second round of matches, the contest could be stopped as Arbroath had already wrapped up the points.

The team will now hope to capitalise on this result when they travel to Duffus on Wednesday evening.

Result: Arbroath 5, West End 1.

Coaching Week

After the success of the recent coaching camp a week of junior coaching has been taking place at the club in Arbirlot Road.

Alan Green has been putting youngsters aged four through to 16 through their paces every morning this week.

There will be one more week of junior coaching, starting on Monday, August 2, and running until Friday, August 6.

Classes, once again, will be taken by Alan Green and the format is: four-to-eight-year-old at 9 a.m., eight-to-12-year-olds at 10 a.m. and 12-to-16-year-olds at 11a.m.

Costs for the coaching week are £10 for members and £20 for non members.
