KINTAIL Outdoor Centre was the destination for Forfar and District Hillwalking Club's June weekend with 19 members in attendance.
On Saturday, bright skies saw 12 members decide on an east to west traverse of the South Glen Shiel ridge. Starting at the Cluanie Inn, the group followed the old road for a few kilometres before tacking the steep ascent to Creag a' Mhaim (947 metres
). From the top the entire ridge could be seen stretching out for some 11 kilometres.
The next five hours were spent traversing the ridge before ending at Creag Nan Damh (918 metres). A fence was then followed westwards to the Bealach Duibh Leac before the long descent to Glen Shiel.
Four members were on the north side of Loch Cluanie starting at Lundie to climb Carn Ghluasaid, Sgurr nan Conbhairean and Sail Chaorainn.
The further three members walked from the Kintail Outdoor Centre to the Bealach an Sgairne where one walker climbed Beinn Fhada and A' Ghlas-bheinn and the two remaining members walked further along the stalkers path and climbed Sgurr Gaorsaic.
Sunday morning began with wind and rain, nine members decided to go for a short walk to visit Sandaig Bay, followed by a light lunch in the Cluanie Inn before heading home, while the others cut short the weekend and went home.
The next day meet on Sunday, July 6 is the 'Secretary's Mystery Meet'. Members are asked to be at the Myre car park in Forfar for 7 a.m. All participants should contact Mel to confirm attendance.
The committee has responded to requests from a number of members to introduce additional club walks. These could probably be best described as more local, slightly shorter or less strenuous social walks.
More information on these walks, and other news, can be obtained from the club's website: www.fdhwc.org.uk
