CYCLING action was not confined to the Olympics over the past weekend as the Scottish Team Time-Trial Championships took place at Forfar on Saturday.
The course starts on the outskirts of Forfar and heads out the A932 to the crossroads at Friockheim. A left turn has the riders heading up the A933 for a couple of miles before another left turn routes them back to Forfar along the B9113.

Local i
nterest was provided by the Angus Bike Chain team comprising R.G. McLean, Euan Ritchie, Dave Millard and Mike Milne. While the first three are TT riders of many years experience, Mike spends the majority of his time competing successfully in mountain bike races, and this was his first serious time-trial.

The pre-race favourites were the top Scottish teams, including Dooleys RT, Pedal Power RT, Glasgow Couriers, The Bicycleworks and Equipe Velo Ecosse.

At the end of the first lap, Dooleys RT held the lead with a time of 00:39:32, with Pedal Power RT and Glasgow Couriers tied on 00:40:15. In the second lap, Dooleys RT extended their lead to claim the Scottish Championship in a time of 01:22:39 (28.31mph average).

Pedal Power RT stepped up the pace and came in second in a time of 01:23:48 (27.92mph average), with Glasgow Couriers taking the third podium place with 01:24:18 (27.75mph average).

The Angus Bike Chain team finished 14th in 01:29:58 (26.01mph average) beating some very strong teams in the process.
