AS THE new season approaches at a barely believable rate, the fixtures for next term were announced on Monday morning.
And Arbroath have been handed a home clash against Alloa Athletic on the opening day of the season scheduled for August 2.

Two away games will follow against Peterhead and Ayr United before last year's foes, East Fife, arrive at Gayfield on August 23. The first derby of the season takes place on September 13 when The Lichties travel inland to face Brechin City at Glebe Park.

With John McGlashan away on a scouting mission to Euro 2008 (okay, that's a joke), assistant manager Robbie Raeside discussed the new campaign.

He explained: "Getting promotion was a big boost for the club and it's really nice to look at the fixtures and see some different places to go and play. To be honest, when I looked at the fixtures for the first time on Monday I looked at Division Three by mistake!

"I was just so used to it, but it was great to see Arbroath sitting at the top of the page for Division Two."

The Lichties face a tough test in the new season but the assistant boss believes that the players are prepared for the challenge. He went on: "There is no denying it's going to be a step up, but it won't be the case of the more experienced players guiding the team through when things are tough. There are a lot of young players at the club who are ready to show people what they can do.
