CARNOUSTIE footballer Fay Hughes has been selected to join the full Scottish women's squad at a training camp after impressing national coach Anna Signeul.
The 22 year old who plays for Dundee United, will meet up with the rest of the team at Toryglen Regional Football Centre in Glasgow today (Friday) for training before the football season kicks off again.

A total of 22 players will be at the training camp and Fay, who works at her family business Sporting Look in Arbroath, is proud of the fact that she will be there with the best women players in Scotland.

She said: "I was involved with the Scottish under-15 and under-19 teams but it is the first time I have been involved with the full A squad.

"When I got told that I had been called up I was really happy because I haven't been involved with the Scottish team for about a year now so it's good to be back in the set up."

The camp at Toryglen will see a mixture of experienced and younger players train together in preparation for friendlies against France and Denmark next month.

Fay continued: "Even just to be picked for the training camp is an achievement and hopefully I will be able to impress and be picked to play for the full team for games in the future.

"It is definitely my aim to be involved in every game for the national side."

Fay, who is a central defender, has also enjoyed a successful season with Dundee United who finished seventh in the Scottish women's premier league.

She added: "We did quite well and finished seventh in the league which was good because it was really close between us and fourth place.

"It was our first season back in the Premier League also, so it was an achievement just to stay up."
