ARBROATH'S Greg Alexander won the Scottish Pool Association category 'B' singles event at the weekend, earning himself a whopping £320 prize money into the bargain.
Several other Arbroath players classed in this category, including Graham Dunbar, Davie Jack, Scott Yeaman and Dave McFarlane, were also in attendance and acquitted themselves well in a starting field of 50. Indeed had Greg not drawn Colin Brown in the semi-final it might have been an all-Arbroath final, which would have been a great achievement.

Knock-out Cup

Next week league pool takes a back seat to the first round of the Knockout Cup tournament.

The draw is as follows: Legion (3) v Newgate; Crown (2) v Letham Hotel (2); Cliffburn v Fishermans; Ram's Heid (1) v Railway (2); Letham Hotel (1) v Crown (1); Portcullis (2) v Bowlers (1); Burns Bar (2) v Portcullis (3); Station v Stag; Victoria Bar v Legion (1); Legion (2) v Ship Inn; Abbey (2) v Bowlers (2); St Thomas v Railway (1).

Please note that, due to the original draw putting both Crown teams at home, this has been amended to have Crown (1) travel away to Letham Hotel (1), as they were the second Crown team out of the hat.

There are four seeded teams which will sit out this round and rejoin the competition at the last 16 stage. They are Abbey (1), Burns Bar (1), Portcullis (1) and Ram's Heid (2).

The winners of these ties will join the seeded teams in the last 16 while the losing teams will go on to form the Consolation Cup. Any team which does not honour or fulfil their tie will be excluded from the Consolation Cup.

Individual Membership event

Final qualifying ties in the Individual Membership event are: Gareth Ruxton v Steve Hamilton; and Colin Brown v Steve Webster.

The ties must be completed by Sunday 31st January.

Super 11s

All 36 players selected for Arbroath and District Pool League's three teams (A, B and B1) have until Sunday, January 31, to pay their £36 caravan fees. Players who haven't paid by the deadline will be replaced within the squads by nominated reserves.
