AFTER electing to bat in their match against Aberdeenshire at Lochlands on Saturday, United lost an early wicket in the fifth over when Ben McGill was caught by Shay from the bowling of Chris West.
Matthew Parker (29 from 68 balls) and Chris Johnston (28 from 58 balls, four fours) found runs difficult to come but grafted to take the total to 66 in the 22nd over before Johnston was bowled by Richie Lamb.
And Parker was dismissed 10 runs later when he was caught by Matthew Hays from the bowling of Todd Astle.

Greig Peal was trapped lbw by Simon McGillewie and when Fraser Burnett was run out, United were on 102 for five after 35 overs. Peter Clarke (23 from 55 balls) and Mark Petrie (unbeaten 27 from 49 balls) added 45 before Clarke was caught by Kevin Thomson from Neil MacRae's bowling in the 47th over, United eventually closing on 168 for seven.

In reply, Aberdeenshire started briskly, reaching 26 in the fifth over before Ian Brand (19 from 13 balls, four fours) was caught by McGill from Parker's bowling.

The professional, Todd Astle, who completed his half-century from 78 balls, was joined by Neil MacRae and they brought up 50 in the 11th over and 100 in the 24th over.

The total reached 121 in the 30th over before Astle (63 from 92 balls, nine fours) was caught by Petrie from Fraser Burnett's bowling. This proved to be the last success for United as MacRae (unbeaten 59 from 113 balls, six fours) and Will Anderson (unbeaten 20 from 43 balls) guided Aberdeenshire to an eight-wicket victory with 6.4 overs remaining.

United had Harmanjit Singh dismissed in the third over of their second round Scottish Cup match against Greaves Clydesdale at Lochlands on Sunday when he was caught by Greig Peal from Matthew Parker's bowling.

Zulifar Shahid and Qasim Sheikh scored quickly reaching 52 in the 12th over before a mix up saw Shahid (29 from 33 balls, four fours) run out.
Fraser Burnett and Ben McGill each claimed a wicket to leave the visitors on 86 for four in the 24th over. However, Sheikh (67 from 96 balls, six fours) and Zeeshar Bashir gained the upper hand taking the total to 144 in the 37th over when Sheikh was caught by Chris Johnston from the bowling of Craig Ramsay. Bashir (45 from 72 balls) was eighth out with the total on 200 when he was bowled by Peter Clarke (two for 29) while Borthwick and Mo Afzal took the Clydesdale closing total to 225.

In reply, United lost McGill in the opening over, trapped lbw by Afzal. Parker and Johnston took the total to 41 in the 13th over when the latter was lbw to Kamran Sajid. The middle order struggled and when Parker (50 from 94 balls) was dismissed by Bashir, United were 100 for seven in the 34th over.

Calvin Burnett (30 from 35 balls) then had partnerships of 35 with Euan Rosie and 23 with Craig Anderson (unbeaten 13 from 22 balls) before becoming Ross Lyons' (three for 35) third victim, caught by Afzal.

Sajid (three for 17) also claimed a third victim when he closed the innings by bowling Ramsay in the 46th over with the total on 158, United losing by 67 runs.
