Arbroath’s young bowlers were in action again this week for the hotly contested Arbroath Schools Commonwealth Bowls Competition.
Organised by the Arbroath and District Bowling Hub the finals were held at Arbroath Bowling Club on Monday with primary and secondary pupils battling it out in their separate championships.
Winners were: Primary Schools - 1, Ladyloan; 2, Warddykes; 3, Timmergreens; 4, Muirfield. Secondary Schools - 1, Arbroath Academy; 2, Brechin High School; 3, Arbroath High School; 4, Montrose Academy / Hayshead Primary School.
The gold medals were presented by none other than Arbroath’s own world champion bowler and Commonwealth Gold medallist Darren Burnett, and Angus Provost Helen Oswald and Colin Knight, development manager from Angus Sports Development, awarded the silver and bronze medals respectively.
A spokesperson for the Arbroath and District Bowling Hub said: “The competition finals were a fantastic day that was enjoyed by all.
“All of the participants had a fantastic day and we would like to thank them for coming along and competing in the first bowls competition.
“A huge thank you to the guests that came along on Monday to support the competition and a massive thank you to the volunteers from all of the bowls clubs and the Active Schools Coordinators who made this competition a success.”
