AROUND 300 young musicians from across the local area recently participated in the annual Angus schools’ bands and orchestras concerts.
Intensive weekly rehearsals began in September and culminated in a musical extravaganza over two evenings in the Reid Hall, Forfar and St Andrew’s Parish Church, Arbroath.
At St Andrew’s Church, Arbroath players of the senior string orchestra and wind band performed to a full house.
Friends, family and members of the public enjoyed a varied and entertaining programme with touching moments of Mendelssohn, bouncing melodies of Herb Alpert, sing-along hits of Stevie Wonder and the raw power of Rage Against the Machine.
Also featured in the evening were the Carnoustie High School brass quintet, who are tutored by brass instructor Michael Robertson.
The young musicians are now taking a break until March, when the Angus Youth Orchestra will be gearing up for a concert on March 27 in the Webster Memorial Theatre, Arbroath
