Lidl UK, Britain’s fastest growing supermarket, unveiled a brand new, state-of-the-art bakery at its store on Gravesend, Arbroath this morning.
The addition to the store represents Lidl’s continued investment in the local community and forms part of the company’s expansion and improvement plans across the UK.
The new bakery will deliver an enhanced shopping experience and will enable local residents to buy freshly-baked pain au chocolat, goat’s cheese and pesto focaccia and all-butter croissants on a daily basis.
As well as adding a new bakery to the store, Lidl have refurbished the interior and adopted a premium looking muted grey palette to bring it more in line with their current look-and-feel.
Lidl UK’s Regional Head of Property, Gordon Rafferty, said: “As our strong sales growth continues we are constantly reinvesting into our existing store base, as well as building new stores.
“We are very excited to introduce this new bakery to our Arbroath store and look forward to serving our multi-award winning bakery products to the local community.”
Lidl, which was crowned Best Supermarket 2016 by readers of Good Housekeeping, has experienced continued growth over the years, as consumers flock to the shop to discover products – two thirds of which are British - ranging from quality British fruit and vegetables, to premium wines from its much coveted Wine Cellar collections.
Over 5.5 million British shoppers are now flocking to Lidl each week, half a million more a week than in 2014. Lidl’s success shows no signs of slowing, as the latest Kantar Worldpanel results outline its continued growth and market share high of 4.5 per cent.
