There was an unlikely ‘meat’-ing today (Friday) at Arbroath Marina as part of the preparations for this year’s Sea Fest.
As part of the fun, which will take place over the weekend of August 15 and 16, the organisers of the pie-eating contest and the Strongman and Strongwoman competition decided to help each other out.
As part of their training regime, Lee Page from Arbroath’s Warehouse Gym and top local powerlifter Kara Swankie carried out an impromptu training session at Arbroath Harbour using a tasty component from one of the other contests at this year’s Sea Fest – the Pie Eating Competition.
“Most of the strength athletes competing in Sea Fest’s Strongman and Strongwoman contests are on special diets – but a little of what you fancy does you good,” laughed Lee, as he lifted a tray of DH Robertson pies high above his head.
“The Strongman competition certainly attracted the crowds last year and with the addition of the Strongwoman competition, the Pie Eating contest and the Raft Race, there’s going to a lot of cheering at this year’s event!”
Chair of Arbroath Sea fest 2015, Marco Macari, was also there to lend a hand and revealed a bit more about this year’s events.
He explained: “There will be live music throughout the weekend, including a stage dedicated to showcasing the talents of up-and-coming young local musicians and singers, performances and flash mob appearances by Limelight, Arbroath’s musical theatre school, and there will also be the thrilling spectacle of Arbroath’s RNLI Lifeboat charging down the slipway and into the sea.
“And, by popular demand, there will also be fun fair rides, a fabulous range of stalls and, of course, the chance to go on board the beautifully restored fishing boats and other historic vessels which sail to Arbroath to take part in Sea Fest.”
