A woman has died following an incident at Arbroath Harbour earlier this week.
On Wednesday evening, Arbroath Lifeboat, HM Coastguard and Police Scotland attended at the harbour where a woman was recovered from the water.
A spokesperson for the Arbroath Lifeboat said: “I can confirm a request to launch both lifeboats was received from HM Coastguard shortly after 8.45pm last night (Wednesday).
“Both boats were on scene within minutes and recovered a female from the water, initially onto the inshore lifeboat.
“The casualty was given immediate treatment before being transferred onto the all-weather lifeboat where the volunteer crew continued to administer treatment as they returned quickly to harbour.
“Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of the crew, the casualty could not be saved.”
A spokesperson for Police Scotland added: “Police Scotland attended in the area of Victoria Park, Arbroath, following concern for a woman in the water at around 8.45pm last night.
“Despite emergency service attendance, including Coastguard, the 72-year-old woman sadly died at the scene.
“There are no apparent suspicious circumstances and, as with all sudden deaths, a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
