Who is your Citizen of the Year?

DO YOU know someone in Arbroath you feel deserves greater recognition for something they do in the community?

Then why not help bring them that greater recognition by nominating them for the 2013 Arbroath Citizen of the Year award.

The Rotary Club of Arbroath and the Arbroath Herald have teamed up again to present this award to a local person who has made an outstanding contribution to the community during the past year.

The nominee’s achievements could be sporting, cultural, civic or charity related – anything that has benefited or been good for the community. It might be someone who has done particularly well in their chosen field of work, sport, leisure or someone who has proved to be a great ambassador for the town.

The important thing is they can only be considered worthwhile for this award if you nominate them.

The award, now in its 16th year is well established as one of the most prestigious in the town and is highly regarded because its recipient has been nominated and selected by his or her fellow citizens.

The award takes the form of a specially engraved crystal bowl which will be presented to the winner.

Rotary president Dale Hatton said: “We are delighted to be instrumental in helping the people of Arbroath to bring wider recognition to someone special in the community.

“This award seems to bring more nominations with each passing year, but the more nominations we receive, the more worthwhile the title becomes. Here’s hoping for another record year with even more names put forward than before!

“We all know people we admire for the things they do and achieve, but what is important is that we don’t assume someone else will nominate them. We would rather the same person be nominated 10 times over than not be nominated at all.”

Brian Stormont, editor of the Arbroath Herald said the newspaper was delighted to sponsor the award. He called upon local clubs and organisations to participate by submitting suitable nominees.

“The winner of this year’s award will join a long list of worthy recipients but we need the people of Arbroath to nominate worthy people. The help of the readers, who make the nominations is hugely valuable.

“It is always a difficult choice but whoever the winner is, they will have deserved it.”

Nominating someone couldn’t be easier. Just fill in the accompanying form, briefly give your reasons for nominating the person and add your own name, address and telephone number. If the person you are nominating is under the age of 18, please include their age.
