A sponsored cycle run from Inverurie to Arbroath in aid of Cancer Research could break the £5,000 barrier this weekend.
Tomorrow (Saturday), James Forbes from Arbroath and his cousin, Darren Ross, from Inverurie will lead a group of their friends over the 80-mile route in support of Cancer Research UK and Leukaemia Research.
According to James the fund-raising campaign has been quite a success.
He said: “Things have gone well, we’ve had quite a lot of help.
“People have given us money, juice, Kerr’s have sponsored us a van, Keillor’s are doing a big banner for us for the day and that will have all the sponsors on it.
“Angus Bike Chain gave us a service on a couple of the bikes. We’ve had a good response from people.”
James and Darren have recruited around a dozen of their friends to take part and they are hoping to realise a healthy amount from their combined efforts.
James said: “I’m not sure how all the other lads are doing but I think we’ve done well.
“I know myself and my cousin we’ve almost got about £3,000. Hopefully we can try and get £5,000 between everybody.”
The cyclists are due to leave Inverurie at around 7 a.m. and if all goes well should arrive in Arbroath at around 2 or 3 p.m.
They will then head to the Westport Bar which is laying on refreshments for the volunteers.
