One of the tasty treats on offer at this year’s Arbroath Sea Fest will be a cooking class for children.

The WeeCookies Club will be cooking up a storm at Arbroath harbour on Saturday, August 15, as part of the weekend of family fun celebrating the town’s maritime heritage.

“Arbroath Sea Fest is all about family fun,” said Lynn Cameron, one of the members of Arbroath Sea Fest Committee, the team of volunteers who work tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure the annual celebration of Arbroath’s maritime links is a success.

“This year, we are delighted to welcome top chef Hayley Wilkes of WeeCOOK to Sea Fest. Hayley will be hosting children’s cookery classes at the WeeCookies Club on Saturday, August 15, which will be an excellent, and tasty, addition to our programme.”

Hayley explained that children who come along to the WeeCookies Club during Arbroath Sea Fest will learn how to make a delicious seafood sauce.

She said: “They’ll also be able to decorate their own sea shell or fish-shaped biscuits, participate in the ‘chuck-the-fish-in-the-pot’ time trial competition - and eat or take away their creations.”

All children who attend Sea Fest’s WeeCookies club will receive a special chef’s hat, stickers and a fortune-telling fish!

“This will be my first time at Arbroath Sea Fest and I’m super excited about coming along,” continued Hayley.

“2015 is Scotland’s Year of Food & Drink and I’m delighted I’ll be teaching children to cook at a high-profile event in a town that’s renowned for its fabulous seafood and, of course, Arbroath Smokies. I love taking part in events such as Arbroath Sea Fest as they’re great for locals and visitors alike – of all ages!”

In addition to the WeeCookies Club, the programme also features a selection of other free children’s activities, including a craft workshop and a sandcastle competition. Sea Fest 2015 will take place in and around Arbroath Harbour on August 15 and 16, for more details visit www.arbroathseafest.co.uk
