AN ARBROATH based marine has raised more than £2,600 for a forces charity at his wedding.

Chris Sherrington and his new wife, Zoe Redhead, both of whom are from Broxburn, were married last month and instead of receiving wedding gifts asked for donations instead.

A total of £2,600 has been raised so far for Help For Heroes with more cash still being collected.

Chris, who is a member of 45 Commando, is currently in a full-time judo sports draft and is hoping to qualify for the London 2012 Olympic Games while Zoe works for Lloyds Banking Group.

Chris said: “As we’ve lived together before getting married, we had everything that we needed. Instead of replacing things ‘for the sake of it’ we wanted to do something worthwhile and Help For Heroes was the natural charity for us both.

Zoe added: “It means a lot to us that our friends and family have supported us and donated so much. Help For Heroes strives towards 100 per cent effectiveness so every pound will go directly to helping wounded servicemen and women.”
