Carnoustie turned out in glorious sunshine today (Saturday) to honour the deeds of Samson VC 100 years on.
A commemorative plaque was unveiled by Lord Lieutenant of Angus Georgiana Osborne on a special plinth outside the town’s golf centre.
It was precisely 100 years ago today, on April 25, 1915, that George Samson RN earned his Victoria Cross for his actions on V Beach during amphibious landings of the Gallipoli campaign.
At the same time as the plaque in Carnoustie was being dedicated another plaque was unveiled in Barbados, the final resting place of Petty Officer Samson who died of double pneumonia in 1923.
Our video shows Angus Provost Helen Oswald giving her speech to mark the occasion.
