Home-Start Angus welcomed seven new volunteers to its team last week.
Following the completion of an eight week Course of Preparation the volunteers will be involved with befriending and supporting families with pre-school children who are experiencing difficulties. Volunteering opportunities with Home-Start Angus include being introduced to parents and small children and committing to visiting them regularly in their own homes. Home-Start volunteers provide an essential ‘extra pairs of hands’ to parents living in stressful circumstances.
They also offer a friendly listening ear and share their own parenting experiences with the families they support.
Volunteering with Home-Start Angus can be challenging, but very rewarding as some of the volunteers told us...”it’s good to feel useful, able to use a range of skills. Also to support mum, lend a listening ear and help boost her self esteem”....”the family appreciate my visit. There is always a welcoming smile from the parent and child”.... “being parents ourselves and going through most of it ourselves at some time or other adds to building a relationship”.... “due to volunteering with Home-Start Angus, I now have an interview for paid employment with NHS Tayside”.
