THE ANNUAL general meeting of the Rotary Club of Arbroath was held on Thursday evening in the Meadowbank Inn.
Treasurer Don Clark gave a positive report regarding the finances of the club, adding that the annual subscription would be less in the year to come because of the present year’s excellent fund-raising.
Secretary Angus Cruickshank reported that club membership was healthy, with 52 members and three honorary members at present. In the new Rotary year 2013/14, Stuart Scott will continue as convener of Foundation, Rotary’s own charity, Jill Kerr will continue as convenor of PR, Mary Struthers will take over as convener of International, Mike Sowden will take over as convener of Community and Vocational Service and David Miller will become convener of Young Generation.
Wilson Robson intimated that the club’s coffee morning will take place on Saturday, May 25, and that donations of books, baking, bric-a-brac, etc., would be very welcome.
Bill Watt reported that he had visited the Rotary Club of Carnoustie and had been warmly received. His principal reason for visiting had been to inform the Carnoustie club of Arbroath’s budding Rotaract group, with a view to attracting more members from the area.
In a previous initiative, Jill Kerr had invited members to take photos of each other during meetings using disposable cameras. Copies of some photos were available during Thursday’s meeting for those interested to take away. She also asked members to take away labelled books to pass on to other potential readers as part of the club’s literacy project.
