AN ANGUS Training Group apprentice was presented with his trophy and a cheque for winning the National Craft Competition held earlier this year at a ceremony at the Score Vital Training and Conference Centre, Peterhead, last Wednesday.
Calum Newton (18) received a prize of £500 and a trophy from Billy Scott, business development manager (Scotland) of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE ).
At the competition held in June, 20 of the country’s top apprentices in mechanical and electrical engineering undertook challenges in which their practical skills and knowledge were tested.
Calum achieved an outstanding overall mark of 88 per cent focusing on the specialised area of electrical wiring and bench fitting. He is an apprentice with Angus Training Group and is sponsored by Glaxosmithkline, Montrose.
Alan Swankie, director of Angus Training Group was also presented with the award for the training provider of the competition winner.
“This completes a ‘hat trick’ of wins for Angus Training Group and Mr Swankie paid tribute to the staff for their continued ability to provide top class training for the apprentices starting out on their engineering careers.
